Some people say they don’t like leftovers. But we in The Bachelor’s Kitchen grew up with them and know they can be better than the original meal sometimes.
But, never fear, there are plenty of ideas for what to do with leftovers. While there may be plenty of recipes for main dishes, what do you do with all side dishes? We have some ideas about that, too.
An obvious choice is a classic Pot Pie. Just fill a pie shell with meat, potatoes, gravy, vegetables, and even stuffing, and then put a top crust on. Bake in a hot oven until the crust is golden brown and the inside is bubbly.
Want something less obvious, we have a new recipe we are dying to try, Leftover Wontons. If you have leftover cranberry sauce, you can turn that into a dipping sauce. Just mix together about 1-1/2 cups of shredded meat, a cup of side dishes, 4 ounces (half a package) of softened cream cheese and 1/4 cup of gravy. Lay out your wontons from the store (usually in the produce section) and put a scant tablespoon of the filling in the center. Fold the wonton into a triangle and seal the two sides with a finger dipped in water (like glue). Seal with a fork pressed along the edges. Heat 3 cups of vegetable oil in a deep skillet and then pan fry the wontons in batches and crisp and brown, about 2 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels and allow to cool. Serve while still warm with your cranberry dipping sauce or plain old sweet and sour sauce.
Want something easier? How about just throwing it all in a casserole dish with some cheese on top for Leftover Casserole? It doesn’t get much easier than that.
